Did you know that damages due to a data breach are excluded from coverage under the standard terms of an Insurance Bureau of Canada commercial general liability policy? In his article, Cyber risks & liability insurance (published in the August 19 2011 issue of The Lawyers Weekly), Gordon Hilliker points out some of the cyber-risks to businesses and recommends that firms “…seek professional advice both as to their exposure to third party cyber liability risks and the insurance products that are available to address these risks.” The Canadian Lawyers Insurance Association provides loss prevention information solely for the benefit of CLIA insured lawyers. The content and links provided in Loss Prevention eBytes are intended as resources to qualified lawyers who should exercise due care and their professional judgment in adapting or making use of any content.
