An updated and revised version of The Canadian Bar Association's Code of Professional Conduct has now been released. The new version contains significant revisions to the provisions on conflicts of interest that “...focus primarily on lawyers’ duties of loyalty and confidentiality to clients. They also call for the appropriate use of engagement letters. These amendments can be seen in the new Code’s Interpretation, and in Chapters 3-6, 8-10, and 17.” The Code is available only online and is now also fully searchable. The Canadian Lawyers Insurance Association provides loss prevention information solely for the benefit of CLIA insured lawyers. The content and links provided in Loss Prevention eBytes are intended as resources to qualified lawyers who should exercise due care and their professional judgment in adapting or making use of any content.
