Individual lawyers don’t have all the answers. This was made clear by the tale of an Ontario lawyer who posted about his client online, possibly breaching numerous professional obligations in the process, as told in the recent post Every Lawyers Needs a Guardian Angel (published December 9, 2012 on Slaw.) One of the benefits of working in teams or with a firm is that you have available to you a range of opinions that can inform and guide your decision-making process. If you don’t have wise lawyers to consult with in your work environment, do seek out the wisdom and experience of your local practice advisors. Most Canadian law societies, lawyers’ insurance programs or bar associations offer some sort of free and practical advice service tailored for and provided by lawyers. Take advantage The Canadian Lawyers Insurance Association provides loss prevention information solely for the benefit of CLIA insured lawyers. The content and links provided in Loss Prevention eBytes are intended as resources to qualified lawyers who should exercise due care and their professional judgment in adapting or making use of any content.
