Fraudsters are not always strangers to you, or your firm. The article Thinking About the Unthinkable: How to Guard Against Fraud and Embezzlement in Your Firm by David Debenham and Sheila Blackford (published in the June 2009 issue of Law Practice) warns against the fraud from within your own firm or business. Be sure to also take a look at the related resource, How to Prevent Fraud and Embezzlement: A Checklist because, as was pointed out in Dishonest Employees, published in the April 2006 CLIA Loss Prevention Bulletin #157, your CLIA insurance policy coverage specifically excludes “…claims arising out of or from the theft or misappropriation of trust funds or property or in anyway related to such theft or misappropriation.” The Canadian Lawyers Insurance Association provides loss prevention information solely for the benefit of CLIA insured lawyers. The content and links provided in Loss Prevention eBytes are intended as resources to qualified lawyers who should exercise due care and their professional judgment in adapting or making use of any content.
