Roundup: Cyber Awareness
CLIA and our Subscriber law societies take cyber awareness seriously. CLIA administers a Mandatory Cyber insurance program. This product is purchased by each CLIA Subscribing Law Society and provides coverage for their members. CLIA also provides an optional, enhanced Stand-alone Cyber insurance product which can augment your protection, and provide your firm with robust coverage for its potential expenses and lost revenues in the event of a breach or attack. But more importantly, we want you to have the knowledge and tools to avoid a cyber attack. See our collection of posts below to assist:
A collection of posts to help you better understand your cyber coverage, manage and report a cyber attack, and understand the minimum standards you must have in place to be eligible under the Mandatory Cyber Program.
Minimum standards must be in place in order for you to be eligible under the Mandatory Cyber Program. This includes multifactor authentication (MFA). See this post for more information on what MFA is, why it is important and how to set up.
Cyber Security Awareness Month is an internationally recognized campaign held each October to help the public learn about the importance of cyber security. In Canada, the campaign is led by Get Cyber Safe, a Government of Canada initiative. Check out this post and the Get Cyber Safe website for resources to help inform you about cyber security and the steps you can take to protect yourself online.
The Law Society of Manitoba has put together a comprehensive Cyber Security Resource Library to assist lawyers no matter their jurisdiction. As noted on their website:
This resource library contains links to relevant content from various sources that have been collected for you. It includes a variety of content formats, including articles, infographics, quizzes, and videos that range in tone from serious to more lighthearted. We encourage you to explore, learn, and share with firm staff to help block cyber criminals.
CLIA Subscriber jurisdictions and our partners continue to see claims involving hacked emails. This is also known as social engineering - where fraudulent electronic communications or websites designed to impersonate you or your firm cause you damage. See this post to better understand what is social engineering and how you can avoid being duped.
CLIA acts as a central hub for our subscribers by offering one-stop-shopping for those who need a quick source of loss prevention resources. Our revamped Loss Prevention Online Repository houses a collection of links to numerous checklists, tips, articles, videos and guides created by our subscribers and partners. The Repository is now organized by topic and numerous subtopics to better guide you to the resources you need. One topic is Cyber, with the three subtopics General, Assessment/Good Practice, and Scams.
